MQM's announcement of boycott of local elections

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan has announced
a boycott of local body elections in Karachi and Hyderabad today.
Negotiations between MQM-Pakistan and PPP are ongoing
in the Governor House, in which Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Khalid
Maqbool Siddiqui and other leaders besides legal experts are also
participating.
MQM Pakistan has held several rounds of negotiations
in the Governor's House, but so far has not been able to decide whether to
participate in the local body elections or not.
There is intense pressure on MQM Pakistan from the
federal government and PPP to participate in the local body elections, both
sides have advised not to leave the field empty and not care about the results.

prepare, mock leaders of the MQM are adamant about boycotting the election but
are afraid to make their final decision public, and there are a lot of leaders

MQM Pakistan objected to the constituencies and

results of any elections held will not be accepted.
The Coordinating Committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement
has held several meetings since last day for the decision regarding the local
body elections, still the process of consultation between the party leaders is
going on.
At the MQM Pakistan meeting, Dr. Khalid Maqbool
Siddiqui, Wasim Akhtar, Faisal Sabzwari, Mustafa Kamal, Dr. Farooq Sattar, and
other leaders are present.
Sources of MQM say that the party will participate in
the local elections despite all reservations, the majority of the coordination
committee members have given the opinion not to leave the field empty.
Mustafa Kamal, on the other hand, claims that the
situation is currently being resolved and that he will let you know as soon as
it is.
MQM Pakistan has called the legal team for
consultation, which will be consulted on various aspects.
It should be noted that MQM Pakistan strongly objected
to the constituencies and demanded to stop polling in Karachi, Hyderabad and
other parts in the second phase of local body elections in Sindh.
The Sindh government had written a letter to the
Election Commission of Pakistan based on the concerns of the MQM Pakistan and
asked them to postpone the election, but the ECP had announced that the
election would be held on January 15 at the appointed time in Karachi and
Hyderabad.
